The session will cover relationships in general and the application of relevant Buddhist teachings and practices. From Western Psychology the psychotherapeutic aspects of relationships. From Buddhism the Eight Fold Path to improve relationships will be emphasised. About half the time will be put aside for comments, questions and discussion.

About the Presenter: Dr Tan is Founder President of the Australian Association of Buddhist Counsellors and Psychotherapists (AABCAP) and its first Director of Training of AABCAP’s two year Professional Training Course in Buddhist Psychotherapy. He was a novice monk at Buddhist Vihara, Brickfields Kuala Lumpur.

He was the Founder and Chair of Metta Clinic, an established group psychological practice in Pymble, Sydney from 1989 to 2022. Dr. Tan has worked with individuals, couples and groups in his practice. He ran Meditation, Personal Development and Analytic Groups.

He was a former Chairman of Training of the PPAA, member of the Faculty of Training of ANZAP, and the Training Advisory Board of NSWIPP. He was also a former Chair of the Section of Psychotherapy of the RANZCP. He was also a Lecturer, Academic Board Member and Adjunct Professor at Nan Tien Institute, the first Buddhist institution offering tertiary education in Australia.

He continues to be on the Management and Training Committees of AABCAP. Whilst he is retired from clinical work, he continues to supervise helping professionals in mindfulness practices, in dynamic/analytic psychotherapies and in integrating the two healing traditions. In the last fifty years he has presented keynote addresses, workshops and seminars on Meditation, Spirituality, Buddhism and Psychotherapy in Australia and the Asia Pacific Region.
